The rack systems: Front Runner Slimline II, Slimsport, and Eezi-Awn K9

Front Runner Outfitters makes two distinct systems in the Toyota range: the Slimline II and the Slimsport. The Slimline II is the full-cargo platform and the one most buyers end up with. The open-deck design uses laser-cut steel side rails with interchangeable slat inserts, which keeps weight down while giving you a proper working load surface. It integrates with Front Runner's full accessory range without adapters, so awnings, solar mounts, jerry can holders, light mounts, roof tents, and more all attach directly. It's available across the widest range of Toyota models and body variants in the range.

The Slimsport is Front Runner's lighter, ultra-low-profile alternative. It's the right choice if you want a capable rack for lighter or occasional loads without the full footprint of the Slimline II. The Slimsport is Lightbar Ready out of the box and sits considerably closer to the roofline, which keeps the vehicle's silhouette cleaner and reduces wind noise on highway runs. It's available for select Toyota models including the Hilux and Prado 150.

Eezi-Awn makes the K9: a fully welded steel rack with a traditional crossbar-and-rail construction that suits buyers who prefer that style or have specific load requirements. Eezi-Awn K9 racks are available to order for a number of Toyota models. Get in touch for current availability and lead times.

Getting fitment right

Roof rack kits for Toyota are vehicle and generation specific. A kit for a Hilux Revo dual cab is not the same as one for an older N70 Hilux, and a Prado 150 kit is not interchangeable with a Prado 120. Getting the right kit starts with knowing your vehicle's generation and body style. What Toyota models do you stock roof racks for?

We stock fitment-specific roof rack kits for the Toyota Hilux (multiple generations and cab types), Prado (90, 95, 120, and 150 Series), RAV4 (2019-Current), Fortuner (2016-Current), FJ Cruiser, and LandCruiser (70 Series including 76, 78, and 79 variants; 80, 100, 200, and 300 Series; plus classic 40 and 60 Series and the LandCruiser Prado 250). What is the difference between the Front Runner Slimline II and Slimsport?

The Slimline II is a full-cargo platform with a larger load surface and higher carrying capacity, suited to owners running a full accessory setup, rooftop tent, or regular loads. The Slimsport is lighter and sits much closer to the roofline, making it better suited to lighter loads, improved aerodynamics, and builds where a light bar is a priority. The Slimsport is available for fewer Toyota models than the Slimline II. Both mount to the factory roof load points without drilling.

Do Toyota roof racks require drilling?

No. All Front Runner Slimline II and Slimsport kits for Toyota vehicles mount to the factory roof load points and include all hardware for a complete installation. No drilling into the vehicle body is required on any Toyota model or generation in the range.

What accessories can I add to a Toyota roof rack?

The Slimline II and Slimsport platforms are compatible with Front Runner's full accessory range, including awnings, solar panel mounts, jerry can holders, sand track mounts, light mounts, spare wheel carriers, and roof tent systems. Most accessories attach directly to the rack's T-slot or foot peg system without additional adapters. If you're planning a specific build and want to confirm what's compatible, get in touch before you order.

Can I run a rooftop tent on a Toyota roof rack?

The Slimline II is compatible with rooftop tents on most Toyota models. We recommend checking both the rack's rated load capacity and your vehicle's factory roof load rating before committing to a specific tent, as the vehicle's roof rating is usually the more restrictive figure. How much do Toyota roof racks cost?

Across the Toyota range, Slimsport kits start from under $1,000 and Slimline II kits for common models like the Hilux and Prado typically sit between $1,400 and $2,300.
