Why BAK Industries Tonneau Covers

BAK doesn't make budget covers. They sit firmly in the premium end of the market, and the reason owners keep coming back is simple: their covers are built like they're meant to last the life of the truck. Aircraft-grade aluminium panels, marine-grade vinyl on the rolling covers, EPDM perimeter seals, integrated drainage, and locking systems that integrate with your factory tailgate.

A few things worth knowing before we get into the model breakdown:

• All BAK covers are hard covers. Either folding or rolling. No soft vinyl trifolds in the BAK range.
• BAK doesn't make electric or powered tonneau covers. Every cover in the range is manually operated.
• Most BAK covers install with a clamp-on rail system. No drilling required for the cover itself. Drain tubes are included and may require some drilling depending on your tub configuration.
• BAK covers lock when your tailgate is locked. Simple, effective, and means there's no separate key to lose.

Hard Folding vs Hard Rolling, Which Style Suits You

This is the first decision to make, and it really comes down to how you load your tub.

Hard folding covers (the BAKFlip MX4) split the cover into four solid panels connected by hinges. You fold them forward toward the cab in stages, which means you can drive with the cover fully closed, two-thirds open, or fully folded up against the cab. They support heavier loads on top (up to 400 lbs evenly distributed), which is handy if you carry kayaks, surfboards, or light gear over the top. The downside is that when fully folded, the stack of panels at the front of the tub blocks part of your rear visibility.

Hard rolling covers (the Revolver series) are made up of interlocking aluminium slats covered in marine-grade vinyl. They roll up tight against the cab when opened, which means you get near full bed access without blocking your rear window or third brake light. Opening and closing is quick and one-handed. They're brilliant for tradies who load and unload constantly, or anyone who wants maximum visibility when the cover's open. The trade-off is that you can't easily carry gear on top of a rolled cover.

Neither is better than the other. It just depends on whether you prioritise top-loading capacity (go folding) or quick full-bed access with clear visibility (go rolling).

Hard vs Soft Tonneau Covers

Worth a quick mention because we get asked about this often. Soft tonneau covers (typically vinyl over a frame, either folding or roll-up) are cheaper and lighter, but they don't offer the same security, weather protection, or long-term durability as a hard cover. BAK doesn't make soft covers. Every cover in this collection uses solid panels or interlocking aluminium slats, which means better theft resistance, far better weather sealing, and a much longer service life. If you're carrying anything you'd rather not have stolen, a hard cover is the way to go.

Manual vs Electric Tonneau Covers

All BAK covers are manual. There's no electric or powered option in the BAK range. Folding covers are released by hand and folded forward, rolling covers are released and rolled toward the cab. For most owners this is a positive: fewer electronics to fail, no battery drain, no motors to service. If you specifically want a powered cover, you'll need to look at a retractable powered cover from another brand.

BAK Revolver X4s Cover

The current flagship rolling cover and one of BAK's most popular models overall. Full matte black finish across the slats, clamps, and hardware. Heavy-duty aluminium underbody, upgraded rubber-gripped handles, improved side rail seals, rear corner caps for a cleaner look, and durable safety straps to hold the cover open while driving. Patented rotational locking rails secure the cover along the full length of the bed on both sides. Supports up to 400 lbs evenly distributed. One-handed operation. If you want the security and weather protection of a hard cover with the convenience and visibility of a rolling design, this is the one.

BAK Revolver X4ts Cover

Same cover as the X4s, but with integrated T-slot rails built into the bed rails. The T-slots let you mount compatible racks, crossbars, rooftop tent setups, and cargo accessories above the tub. It's the rolling cover for touring rigs and trade vehicles that need to carry longer gear above the bed. Same matte black finish, same 400 lb load capacity, same one-handed operation.
