9500lb Electric Winch with Synthetic Rope by VRS

When you are buried to the axles a long way from anywhere, the winch on the front of your bar is the difference between a story and a very long walk. The VRS 9500lb electric winch is built for exactly that moment. It is rated at 9,500 lb, or 4,310 kg, on a single line from the first rope layer, driven by a 5.3 hp series wound motor through a 3-stage planetary gear train.

VRS designed this range in Australia, and it shows in the details that matter here. The whole unit carries an IP68 water and dust rating with sealed housings and stainless steel hardware, so river crossings and coastal salt are not the end of it. The contactor controller is a heavy duty sealed high amperage unit, and the brake is a multi-segmented cam activated design working inside the drum.

It arrives ready to fit. Thirty metres of 9.5 mm synthetic rope with a SAM hook, an offset aluminium hawse fairlead, both wireless and wired remotes, a 500A isolator switch, ANM fuse and holder, and a breather vent kit are all in the box. How much can the VRS 9500lb winch actually pull?

It is rated at 9,500 lb, or 4,310 kg, on a single line. That figure applies to the first layer of rope on the drum. As the drum fills the rated pull drops: 3,466 kg on the second layer, 2,895 kg on the third, 2,486 kg on the fourth and 2,178 kg on the fifth with all 30 m spooled. Pulling from a fuller drum means less available pull, which is why spooling out to a lower layer is common practice on a hard recovery.

What rope does the V95S come with?

Thirty metres of 9.5 mm synthetic rope, fitted with a SAM hook, plus an offset aluminium hawse fairlead. Synthetic rope is lighter than steel cable and stores less energy if it lets go, though it is more susceptible to abrasion and UV, so inspect it before each use and keep it clear of sharp edges.

What battery do I need to run it?

VRS recommends a minimum 650 CCA battery for winching. Current draw climbs with load: around 80 A with no load, 220 A at 1,814 kg and 360 A at the full 4,310 kg rated pull. That is a serious sustained draw, so we recommend the install is done by a qualified auto electrician who can confirm your charging system and cabling are up to it.

How fast does the 9500lb winch pull under load?

Free spool line speed is 10.80 m per minute with no load. Under load it slows: 4.50 m/min at 907 kg, 2.98 m/min at 2,722 kg and 2.20 m/min at the full 4,310 kg rated pull.

Is the V95S waterproof?

It carries an IP68 water and dust rating, with sealed housings, stainless steel hardware and a sealed contactor controller. It is designed to resist water ingress during crossings and wet weather use, though no winch should be treated as immune. Check the breather vent hose is routed high and dry, and inspect the unit after any deep water work.

What is the mounting bolt pattern?

254 mm x 114 mm, which is the standard pattern used by most bar and cradle manufacturers in this class. Confirm your bullbar or winch cradle is drilled to that pattern before ordering, and check clearance for the 26.2 kg unit in your specific bar.

Does it come with an isolator and fuse, or do I need to buy those separately?

They are included. The kit ships with a 500A isolator switch, an ANM fuse and holder, a detachable 650A control box with cables, and a breather vent with 2.5 m hose and bracket. You should not need additional electrical hardware beyond what suits your particular mounting position.

What is the difference between the V95S and the V125S?

Both are 12V electric winches with synthetic rope from the same VRS range, and VRS lists them as sharing the same physical dimensions. The V95S is rated at 9,500 lb and the V125S at 12,500 lb, with the V125S the heavier of the two at 26.5 kg against 26.2 kg. Heavier vehicles and loaded touring rigs generally warrant stepping up to the 12500lb.

Does this VRS Winch include everything I need for installation?

Unless you're purchasing a specific part, or accessory, VRS winches come in packs ready for installation. This will typically include everything you require for a standard installation to get up and running (leads, bolts, control box, remotes, cable etc). This also includes installation instructions.

How do I know if the winch will fit my vehicle?

While VRS winches are built to global standards and should fit 99% of winch compatible bull bars on the market, there is always the chance yours may be one of the few that it won’t fit. Please check the specifications of the winch, and compare with your vehicle and bar to confirm it will fit. Most of the winches include a blueprint diagram with the winches measurements. 
Note: ARB bull bars usually require an Offset Fairlead (click here to view). 

What does the IP68 rating of the winch mean?

VRS Winches feature an IP68 water and dust rating (IP Rating).

6 = Totally dust tight. No dust entry all.

8 = Protected from prolonged immersion under water.

The IP rating of a winch is a technical term that indicates how dust and water resistant the winch is. Without going into great detail an IP68 rating means the equipment is suitable for continuous immersion in water under conditions which shall be specified by the manufacturer. Normally, this will mean that the equipment is hermetically sealed. However, with certain types of equipment, it can mean that water can enter but only in such a manner that it produces no harmful effects.

What battery do I need to run my winch?

The minimum battery size to run a 4x4 electric winch from is a 650CCA. A poor power supply could prevent your winch from working and could also cause damage to the winch motor.

How often do I need to service my VRS winch?

We strongly recommend that you service your winch at least once a year especially if the winch is submerged quite often during use. Servicing your winch will help make it last for many years of trouble free use. If you are not able to service it yourself, any auto electrician or 4WD service agent will be able to do this.

The VRS Warranty warrants the original purchaser that the mechanical components will be free of defects in material and workmanship for the lifetime of the winch and the electrical components will be free of defects in material and workmanship from a period of 2 years from the original date of purchase.

Warrants the original purchaser that the mechanical components will be free of defects in material and workmanship for the lifetime of the winch and the electrical components will be free of defects in material and workmanship from a period of two (2) years from the original date of purchase. This Warranty only
applies to the original purchaser of the winch.

To obtain warranty service you must provide VRS with proof of purchase such as a copy of your purchase receipt with a date of purchase acceptable to VRS. This warranty does not cover removal or reinstallation of the winch. VRS will, at its option, repair, replace, or refund the purchase price of a defective winch or component, provided you return the defective winch or component during the warranty period, transportation charges prepaid, to VRS Winch Service Department or a Factory Authorised Service Centre. Attach your name, address, telephone number, a description of the problem, and a copy of your receipt showing the VRS part #, serial # and the date of purchase.

This warranty does not apply to 1) finish 2) wire rope 3) if the winch has been damaged by abuse, accident, misuse, overloading, collision, modification, misapplication, improper installation, or improper service 4) if used in commercial or industrial applications 5) if used as a hoist. This warranty is void if any VRS serial number has been removed, defaced, or altered.

THE WARRANTY SET FORTH ABOVE IS THE ONLY WARRANTY. THERE ARE NO OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY WHICH BY LAW MAY NOT BE EXCLUDED IS LIMITED IN DURATION TO TWO (2) YEARS FROM THE DATE OF ORIGINAL RETAIL PURCHASE OF THE PRODUCT.
