It is rated at 12,500 lb, or 5,670 kg, on a single line from the first layer of rope. Rated pull falls as the drum fills: 4,386 kg on the second layer, 3,572 kg on the third and 3,103 kg on the fourth with all 24 m spooled on. Spooling out to a lower layer before a hard pull is standard practice for that reason.

They share the same 5.3 hp series wound motor, the same 537 mm x 155 mm x 173 mm package and the same 254 mm x 114 mm bolt pattern. The difference is gearing and rope. The V125S runs a 273:1 ratio for 5,670 kg of rated pull with 24 m of 11 mm rope at 26.5 kg, while the V95S runs 216:1 for 4,310 kg with 30 m of 9.5 mm rope at 26.2 kg. The V125S gives you more pull, the V95S more line and more speed under load.

Twenty-four metres of 11 mm synthetic rope with a SAM hook, plus an offset aluminium hawse fairlead. The heavier 11 mm rope suits the higher rated pull. Synthetic rope is lighter than steel cable and stores less energy if it lets go, though it is more susceptible to abrasion and UV, so inspect it before each use and keep it clear of sharp edges.

VRS recommends a minimum 650 CCA battery for winching. Current draw rises steeply with load: around 80 A with no load, 180 A at 1,814 kg, 290 A at 4,536 kg and 340 A at the full 5,670 kg rated pull. That is a heavy sustained draw, so we recommend the install is done by a qualified auto electrician who can confirm your charging system, battery and cabling are up to it.

Free spool line speed is 10.80 m per minute with no load. Under load it slows to 2.80 m/min at 1,814 kg, 2.10 m/min at 3,629 kg and 1.70 m/min at the full 5,670 kg rated pull. The deeper 273:1 gearing means it is slower under load than the 9500lb model, which is the trade for the extra pull.

It carries an IP68 water and dust rating, with sealed housings, stainless steel hardware and a sealed contactor controller. It is designed to resist water ingress during crossings and wet weather use, though no winch should be treated as immune. Route the breather vent hose high and dry, and inspect the unit after any deep water work.
