PowerStep Electric Running Boards Suitable for RAM 1500 DS / 2500 / 3500HD (Up to 2025) by AMP Research
Climbing in and out of a lifted RAM every day sounds fine in theory. Until you’re doing it in work boots. Or the kids are trying to haul themselves up. Or you’re hopping in and out all day on site.
Fixed running boards help, but they’re always there. Always visible. And they can cop plenty of mud, road grime and the odd rock when you’re off-road.
The AMP Research PowerStep is different. These are power-retractable side steps that stay tucked up under the body when you don’t need them, then automatically drop down the moment you open the door. Close the door, and they retract back out of sight for a cleaner look and better clearance.
Built for real use
The boards use die-cast aluminium with stainless steel components for strength and corrosion resistance, finished in a black PTFE coating to help protect against oxidation and abrasions. Each step gives you a stable, cab-length platform with a textured, slip-resistant surface, plus integrated low-profile LED courtesy lights to make entry and exit easier in low light.
Smart operation, tidy fitment
The PowerStep uses a premium single-motor design that deploys and retracts automatically with the doors. Newer applications connect via a plug-and-play OBDII module, and an optional override switch is available if you’d like manual control.

Cleaning and maintenance notes
In adverse conditions, debris like mud, dirt and salt can build up in the running board mechanism over time, which may cause noise or binding. Periodic cleaning helps keep things moving freely.
- To leave the steps deployed: open the door, place your foot on the step, then close the door while keeping firm pressure on the step.
- Use a pressure washer to clean the front and rear linkages (all four hinge points). Avoid spraying the motors directly.
- After washing, apply a dry-film silicone spray to the linkage arms and pivot pins, then cycle the doors to work the lubricant into the hinge points.
- Do not apply silicone dressings, waxes or protectants to the running board surface. Do not use grease, oils, WD-40 or penetrants on the mechanism.

Installation
Each kit includes a pair of running boards, a vehicle-specific installation guide, and a RAM-specific mounting kit with the required brackets, hardware, wiring and motors for a complete install.
The system mounts to the vehicle’s rocker panel using the supplied bracketry. Professional installation is recommended, but experienced DIYers can install at home with the right tools and confidence.
