The three 70 Series body variants: 76, 78, and 79
Getting the body variant right is the first step. The 76 is the short-wheelbase wagon and the most common 70 Series body on Australian roads. The 78 is the Troopcarrier: a long-wheelbase wagon with a significantly longer roofline and a dedicated following for serious touring and overlanding builds. The 79 is the dual cab pick-up, and because the rack sits on the cab roof only, all 79 kits are considerably shorter than the wagon options.
76 Series wagon: four kits
Front Runner offers the Slimline II for the 76 in four configurations. The full-size standard rack at 2368mm spans the complete roof and is the most popular choice for owners building proper touring or work setups. The full-size Low Profile is the same 2368mm length but sits closer to the roofline, which suits 76 owners who want a cleaner silhouette or need to manage clearance on the highway and in tight areas.
The 3/4 size at 2166mm covers most of the roof and is a practical middle ground if you want solid carrying capacity without the full rack footprint. The 1/2 size at 1358mm covers the rear portion of the roof and works well for owners running a light bar or a minimal accessory setup without committing to a full cargo platform.
78 Troopcarrier: three kits
The 78 has the longest roof span in the range at 2772mm, giving you a substantial cargo platform from front to back. Front Runner offers this in standard and Tall profile at full size, plus a 3/4 size at 2166mm. The standard profile is the right call for most Troopy owners. The Tall profile gives you additional clearance between the rack deck and the roofline, which fits the look and utility of a lot of 78 builds. The 3/4 kit suits owners who want to reduce weight or don't need the full rack length for their setup.
79 dual cab pick-up: three kits
The 79's rack covers the cab roof only, so all three kits are notably shorter than the wagon options. Front Runner offers two full-size options at different lengths to suit different cab configurations, so check the individual product pages to confirm which fits your specific vehicle before ordering. There is also a 3/4 size at 954mm for a more minimal setup. All 79 kits mount to the cab roof load points without drilling.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the 76, 78, and 79 Series?
The 76 is the short-wheelbase wagon, the 78 is the long-wheelbase Troopcarrier wagon, and the 79 is the dual cab pick-up. All three are part of the current LandCruiser 70 Series production run but have different body styles, roof sizes, and buyer profiles. The roof rack kits are specific to each body variant and not interchangeable between them.
What roof rack fits a LandCruiser 79 Series dual cab?
We carry three Front Runner Slimline II kits for the 79 DC: two full-size options at different lengths (1560mm and 1358mm) to suit different cab configurations, and a 3/4-size kit at 954mm. Check the individual product pages to confirm which full-size option suits your specific vehicle before ordering. All three mount to the cab roof load points without drilling.
What roof rack fits a LandCruiser 76 Series wagon?
We carry four kits for the 76: full-size standard (2368mm), full-size Low Profile (2368mm), 3/4 size (2166mm), and 1/2 size (1358mm). The full-size standard is the most common choice for touring and work builds. The Low Profile suits owners who want a cleaner roofline and lower wind noise. The 3/4 and 1/2 sizes suit lighter setups or builds where a shorter footprint makes more sense.
What is the difference between the standard and Low Profile rack for the 76 Series?
Both are the same full-length 2368mm deck. The standard profile sits higher above the roof and suits builds with a heavier accessory stack or where extra load clearance is useful. The Low Profile sits closer to the roofline, keeping the vehicle's silhouette cleaner and reducing wind noise at highway speeds. Load capacity is the same on both.
What is the difference between the standard and Tall rack for the 78 Troopcarrier?
Both are the same full-length 2772mm deck. The standard profile is the right choice for most Troopy owners. The Tall profile gives you additional clearance between the rack and the roofline, which suits the look of a lot of 78 builds and is useful if you're stacking load height above the roof. Load capacity is the same on both.
Do Front Runner 70 Series racks require drilling?
No. All kits in the 70 Series range mount to the vehicle's factory roof load points and include all hardware for a complete installation. No drilling into the vehicle body is required for any variant.
What accessories can I add to a Front Runner 70 Series roof rack?
The Slimline II platform works with Front Runner's full accessory range, including awnings, solar panel mounts, jerry can holders, sand track mounts, spare wheel carriers, light mounts, and roof tent systems. Most accessories attach directly to the rack's T-slot or foot peg system without additional adapters.
