Kalbarri X Hardshell Roof Top Tent with Ladder and 130W, 200W or 250W Solar Panel by San Hima

The Kalbarri X paired with a solar panel is the version of this tent that suits people who stay put for a few days. You get the X-arm hardshell, which lifts the rear of the tent so you can sit up at the foot of the bed, and a matched San Hima panel with its charge controller so the battery keeps up with the fridge.

The tent itself is unchanged from the standalone Kalbarri X. A 201 x 125cm sleeping area with 138.5cm of headroom, a 5cm non-deformable memory foam mattress over an anti-condensation mat, and four separate openings, dual side windows with mesh rain flies, a ceiling window and a lower window, that move air through the tent instead of around it.

Build is 420D double ripstop Oxford and 280GT poly-cotton at PU 5,000mm and UV 50+, on an aluminium honeycomb base with a 3cm elevated edge. Panel choice runs 130W at 8.2kg through to 250W at 14.51kg, all monocrystalline. It sits at the top of the Kalbarri range in our roof top tents line-up.

Can my vehicle take the Kalbarri X with a solar panel?

The tent is 88.5kg before roof bars, and the panel adds 8.2kg to 14.51kg on top. That makes this one of the heavier setups in the range, so your vehicle's dynamic roof load rating is the figure to check, not the static rating. Add tent, panel, bars and anything else on the roof, then compare against your handbook. Where it is marginal, confirm with the vehicle manufacturer or a licensed mechanic before fitting.

Which panel suits a fridge and a couple of devices?

The three options are 130W at 8.2kg, 200W at 10.6kg and 250W at 14.51kg, all monocrystalline and all supplied with a charge controller. The larger panels give you more headroom on overcast days, at the cost of more to carry and stow. Your battery capacity and daily draw decide it, so work from what your fridge actually pulls.

What does the X-arm design change compared to a standard hardshell?

It lifts the rear section, which gives you usable headroom at the foot of the bed rather than only at the entry end, and lets more natural light in. The exterior arm is shaped to prevent snags on the fabric.

How is the ventilation different in the Kalbarri X?

Who should wire the solar side?

The kit includes the panel and a charge controller. We recommend the 12V connection be made by a qualified auto electrician unless you are confident with vehicle electrical work, and that you follow the manufacturer's instructions for the controller.

What can I put on the crossbars?

They are rated to a maximum of 20kg. That limit sits inside your vehicle's roof load rating rather than adding to it, so anything up there counts against both figures.

How does the Kalbarri X Solar bundle pack down?

Folded, the tent is 215 x 136 x 17cm, and the panel stows separately at between 920 x 30 x 670mm and 1580 x 808 x 35mm depending on size. Check your garage or carport clearance against the tent height plus your bars and roof.

What is included for repairs?
