XRS Cross Bars Bed Rail Kit for Full and Mid Sized Trucks Without Tonneau Cover by Go Rhino

If you want to carry a rooftop tent or extra touring gear without losing practical tub space, the Go Rhino XRS Cross Bars Bed Rail Kit offers a simple and flexible solution. Designed for vehicles without tonneau cover T-track systems, this setup creates a raised platform above the tub while still keeping the tray usable underneath.

The raised corner uprights position the 4-CORE crossbars approximately 6 inches above the factory bed rails, allowing easier access to tools, camping gear and cargo below. Mounted rooftop tents and cargo boxes also sit lower than many traditional rack systems, helping keep gear below the cab roofline to reduce wind resistance and overall vehicle height.

At the centre of the system is Go Rhino’s 4-CORE crossbar design. Each crossbar accepts standard 1/4"-20 hex head hardware, giving you flexible mounting options for rooftop tents, recovery gear, lighting, trail tools and overland accessories without relying on proprietary mounting systems.

Built for touring, camping and work setups alike, the XRS Cross Bar Kit installs without drilling or cutting on compatible applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between this and the tonneau cover T-track version?

The key difference is the mounting method. This kit is designed for vehicles with an open tray (no tonneau cover) and mounts directly to the bed rails using the supplied clamps. The T-track version mounts into the integrated T-slot tracks on a compatible tonneau cover. If you do not have a tonneau cover, or plan to run your tray open, this is the right version. If you are running a Retrax XR, Roll-N-Lock XT, or similar T-track tonneau, choose the T-track version instead.

Mid-size or full-size - which one do I need?

Mid-size suits utes with an inner bed width of approximately 61 inches (examples include the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, and LDV T60 Max.) Full-size is for wider beds around 73 inches (examples include the Chevrolet Silverado 1500/2500, Ford F-150, and RAM 1500/2500.) Measure the inside width of your bed between the walls to confirm before ordering, as the bed rail clamp fit depends on the correct width variant.

Can I carry a rooftop tent on these crossbars?

Yes, the 4-CORE crossbars accept accessories including rooftop tent mounting brackets. Where applicable, Go Rhino XRS rack and crossbar systems are generally rated to 270 kg static and 136 kg dynamic, but you should confirm the rating for your exact kit against your tent's weight. The crossbars sit approximately 6 inches above the factory bed rails, which positions a tent lower than most full-height rack setups and helps keep overall vehicle height down on the road and in tight spaces.

Can I still use the full tray with the crossbars fitted?

Yes. The raised corner uprights position the crossbars above the tray floor, leaving the full bed accessible underneath. You can load and unload gear from the sides and rear as normal. The low-profile setup also means accessories mounted on the crossbars typically sit below the cab roofline, which keeps driving height lower than full canopy or cage setups.

Does the no-drill claim apply to my specific ute?

No-drill installation applies to compatible applications where the bed rail profile suits the supplied clamps. Most common mid and full-size utes are compatible, but fit can vary between models and year ranges. We recommend confirming fitment for your specific vehicle before ordering. Contact us at info@4x4downunder.com.au with your year, make, and model if you want to check before purchasing.

What accessories can I mount on the 4-CORE crossbars?

The 4-CORE crossbar profile accepts standard 1/4"-20 hex head hardware, which is a common mounting standard across camping, lighting, and recovery accessories from many brands. This means you can fit rooftop tent brackets, cargo carriers, bike racks, lighting bars, and recovery gear without needing proprietary adaptors. Accessories are sold separately.

Will these crossbars work with a tonneau cover if I add one later?

Not directly. This version mounts via bed rail clamps and sits on or alongside the bed rails rather than on a tonneau surface. If you later add a tonneau cover with integrated T-slot tracks (like the Retrax XR Series), you would want to switch to the T-track version of this cross bar kit, which is designed to mount on the tonneau surface instead.

How much weight can I carry, and does it matter how fast I drive?

For load-critical applications like rooftop tents, check Go Rhino's published documentation for the specific dynamic load rating of this cross bar configuration. Where applicable, Go Rhino XRS rack and crossbar systems are generally rated to 270 kg static and 136 kg dynamic. As a general principle across all rack systems, dynamic ratings, which apply while driving, are always lower than static ratings, which apply when stationary. The dynamic figure is the one that applies on the road. Contact us if you need help confirming load ratings for your intended setup.
