12K Winch with Black Synthetic Rope by Carbon Offroad

The Carbon Offroad 12K Winch (V3X) takes the proven Carbon 12K platform to a new level of reliability and versatility. Its 6HP motor delivers 12,000lb (5,450kg) of rated line pull, while the automatic brake is built into the motor housing end plate to hold the load through the geartrain rather than directly on the drum. This avoids heat build-up in the drum and helps protect the synthetic rope.

The all-black finish gives the winch a clean, purposeful look, while a choice of coloured recovery hooks lets you add a personal touch. The Version 3 package includes the hardware and controls needed to make installation and operation easier.

Full IP68 ingress protection helps seal the motor, drum and gearbox from water, dirt and dust. A breathable membrane-style motor breather manages expansion and contraction through heat cycles, while the included wired and wireless remotes let you operate the winch from a convenient position.

Installation requirement: The supplied battery isolator switch must be installed. The winch power feed uses an unfused high-current cable, so isolation protects the vehicle if the cable is damaged or shorted.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the IP68 rating mean in practice for river crossings and muddy recovery work?

IP68 is the highest standard ingress protection rating. The full winch is rated dust and waterproof across the motor, drum and gearbox. The V3X also features a breathable membrane-style motor breather that handles heat expansion and contraction during wet use. In practical terms, river crossings, deep mud and driving rain will not compromise the winch. The wireless remote receiver is fully sealed as well.

What's included in the box with the Carbon 12K Winch?

What battery do I need to run the Carbon 12K effectively?

Carbon recommends a minimum of 650 CCA for winching. The winch draws up to 340 amps at rated load, so battery condition matters, particularly for repeated long pulls.

How does the braking system differ from older winch designs?

The V3X uses an automatic brake mounted in the motor housing end plate. It holds the load through the geartrain rather than directly on the drum, avoiding heat build-up in the drum and helping protect the synthetic rope.

What mounting bolt pattern does the 12K use?

The Carbon 12K V3X uses a 10 x 4.5in (254 x 114.3mm) mounting bolt pattern. The CNC billet fairlead can be offset by 20mm to suit different rope outlet positions. Confirm the available space and mounting pattern on your bullbar before installation.

Is the control box position adjustable if my bullbar has limited space?

Yes. The control box bracket has four mounting positions: over the motor, over the drum, on top for flat mounting plates, and in front for vertical mounting setups. The 500mm cables also allow the control box to be remotely mounted away from the winch body.

How easy is the free spool to engage and disengage?

The V3X uses a rotating ring gear clutch with a manual pull-and-twist handle. The design minimises free-spool drag so the rope can be walked out with less effort.

What warranty does the Carbon 12K V3X come with?
