BAK BAKFlip MX4 Hard Folding Tonneau Cover for RAM 1500 DT

This version (SKU UF-BAK-00031) is designed to suit the RAM 1500 DT with a 5'7" bed without RAMBox. If your RAM 1500 DT has RAMBox fitted, or a different bed length, a different part number will be needed. Check your build plate or contact us if you are unsure which tub configuration you have.

The BAKFlip MX4 ships with the folding tonneau cover, side rails, mounting clamps, hardware, and an installation guide. Drain tubes are also included, though some vehicles may require minor drilling for drain tube routing depending on the tub setup.

The MX4 is rated to support up to 400 lb (approximately 180 kg) of evenly distributed weight when closed. This is useful if you occasionally load flat gear across the panels. The cover is not designed to support dynamic or concentrated loads such as weight applied to a single panel or hinge point.

Yes. The MX4 can be driven in a 2/3 open position or with all panels folded fully toward the cab. The 2/3 position allows you to carry taller gear in the rear section of the tub while keeping the front portion covered. Upgraded prop rod clips are designed to hold the cover securely when fully upright.

The MX4 uses EPDM rubber perimeter seals and upgraded seal end caps to help reduce water ingress around the cover edges. A multi-function tailgate seal adds further protection at the rear. Like most tonneau covers, it is designed to reduce rather than eliminate water entry, particularly in sustained heavy rain or high-pressure washing. Gear that cannot get damp should be packed in waterproof containers.

In most applications the MX4 is compatible with both drop-in and spray-on bed liners. The cover clamps to the bed rail, so liner thickness at the rail surface can occasionally affect fitment. If your drop-in liner has a raised outer lip, it is worth confirming with us that the clamps will seat properly before ordering.

BAK notes that on some 8' bed models the third brake light may be partially obstructed due to cab height and light placement. This version is designed for the 5'7" bed where this is typically not an issue. If you have an unusual third brake light placement, it is worth checking once the cover is fitted.

The main advantages of the MX4 over a soft roll-up are rigidity, security, and longevity. The aluminium panel construction is significantly more resistant to cutting or forcing than vinyl roll-ups, and the panels lock via BAK's auto-latching side rail system along the full bed length. Soft covers are generally lighter, easier to remove entirely, and less expensive, but offer considerably less resistance to opportunistic entry or harsh weather. For touring and regular work use, the hard folding cover provides a more practical balance of protection and accessibility.
