Marine Trailer Winch HD 1500kg 15:1/5:1/1:1 by Atlantic

Loading and retrieving a boat off its trailer shouldn't be a fight, especially once you're dealing with anything up to 7.6m and pushing towards the top of what a hand winch can manage comfortably. This Atlantic 1500kg (3300lb) marine trailer winch is built for that job, with a triple-gear ratio of 15:1, 5:1 and 1:1 giving you low-effort cranking under load and a fast 1:1 speed for taking up slack.

The winch body is 4mm axle-grade steel with machine-cut gears, heat-treated hardened steel bushes and a Dacromet finish for rust resistance in salt-spray conditions. A protective side cover and removable handle round out the build, and it's been tested by a NATA-accredited laboratory.

It's available fitted with Atlantic rope, webbing strap or cable, each rated to the same 1500kg capacity, so you can match the rope type to how you use the trailer. Mounting bolts are sold separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size winch do I need for my boat trailer?

As a general rule, match the winch's rated capacity to your boat's fully loaded trailer weight, with some margin rather than winching right at the limit. This model is rated to 1500kg (3300lb) and suits boats up to 7.6m (25ft).

What should I look for in a boat trailer winch?

Capacity, gear ratio and rust resistance are the main things to check. A triple-gear ratio, like this winch's 15:1/5:1/1:1, gives you mechanical advantage for the hard part of the pull and a fast 1:1 speed once the boat's moving freely, while a Dacromet-style coating helps the winch survive regular exposure to salt water.

What are common problems with boat trailer winches?

Corrosion, worn gears and a failing pawl or ratchet are the usual issues on winches that see regular saltwater exposure. This model uses machine-cut gears, heat-treated hardened steel bushes and a Dacromet rust-resistant finish to handle that kind of use, though a rinse with fresh water after each trip to the ramp still helps any winch last longer.

Should a boat trailer winch be mounted over or under the winch post?

Mounting position depends on your trailer's winch post design and the manufacturer's instructions, so check those before fitting. Mounting bolts for this winch are sold separately.

What's the difference between the rope, webbing strap and cable versions?

All three are rated to the same 1500kg capacity; the difference is rope type and length. Atlantic rope runs 7mm x 7.5m (10m max), the webbing strap runs 7.5m (8m max), and the cable runs 7mm x 7.5m (9.5m max), each fitted with a snap hook.

Is this winch tested to a recognised standard?

Yes, it's tested by a NATA-accredited laboratory. NATA (the National Association of Testing Authorities) is Australia's laboratory accreditation body.

How much does the winch weigh?

Unit weight varies by variant: 6.5kg for the rope version, 6.9kg for the webbing strap version, and 7.3kg for the cable version.

Nothing is imported directly and we don't stock any grey imports. This also means that all manufacturer warranties are fully honored by the brands themselves.

No Sales Gimmicks

When you shop at 4x4 Down Under you don’t have to worry about:
  • Annoying and dishonest ’Sales Timers’ that simply reset every few hours and are there to coerce you into buying.
  • Dishonest “low stock” labels, another coercive sales gimmick.
  • False “John just bought a…” alerts. Our customer alerts (bottom left) are 100% true and we're proud of them.
  • Being bombarded by trust badges and labels everywhere you look that mean nothing.
  • We don't spam! Your information is safe with us. It will never be shared or sold, or used to fill your inbox with garbage.
