CapeTop Hardshell Rooftop Tent with Ladder by San Hima

The San Hima CapeTop is a compact hard-shell rooftop tent built for people who want camp set up fast and packed away just as quickly. Its Snap Fold System keeps the shell tight and low on the roof for the drive, then opens out to a proper 215 x 130 x 104 cm sleeping area once you're parked up.

Inside, a digital control panel gives you USB-A, USB-C and a 12V CIG socket for charging phones, lights or a portable fan straight from the tent, and a dedicated AC duct opening lets you run a hose through from a compatible air-conditioning unit on hot nights. The 600D Oxford body has a full blackout lining and a 2,000 mm waterproof rating, while the 150D Oxford canopy uses a silver lining for a 3,000 mm rating and 50+ UV protection.

At 59.65 kg with the ladder removed, the CapeTop is built to stay manageable on the roof rack, and the included telescopic aluminium ladder is rated to 150 kg and extends to 2.3 m.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I get a soft-shell or hard-shell rooftop tent?

A hard-shell tent like the CapeTop trades a bit of pack size for a faster pitch and a more weatherproof shell when it's closed up on the road. The CapeTop's Snap Fold System opens to a 215 x 130 x 104 cm sleeping area, with a 600D blackout-lined body and a 3,000 mm waterproof canopy, so it's built to handle being left set up at camp in changeable weather.

What are the downsides of a rooftop tent?

The main trade-offs are added weight and height on your roof, and needing to climb down if you want to move the vehicle overnight. The CapeTop weighs 59.65 kg with the ladder removed, so it's worth checking your roof rack's load rating can handle it before you buy.

Why do some campsites not allow rooftop tents?

Some campgrounds restrict roof-mounted tents because of site height limits, environmental rules around vegetation and tent pegs, or a lack of suitable parking bays for taller set-ups. Check with the specific campsite or national park before you travel if you're unsure.

Can I run an air conditioner with the CapeTop tent?

The tent has a dedicated AC duct opening that lets you route a hose from a compatible air-conditioning unit into the tent. It doesn't include an air-conditioner itself, so check the hose diameter and mounting method of your unit against the duct opening before you travel.

How much weight can the ladder take?

The telescopic aluminium ladder is rated to 150 kg and extends to 2.3 m. As with any ladder, keep it on firm, level ground and don't exceed the rated capacity.

What's the weight difference with and without the ladder?

The CapeTop weighs 65.65 kg with the ladder attached and 59.65 kg with the ladder removed. Factor in the heavier figure when checking your roof rack's load rating, since the ladder normally travels mounted to the tent.

Will the CapeTop fit my roof rack?

The tent has a 60 cm mounting rail spacing and is designed to suit compatible roof racks and cross bars. Confirm your rack's rail spacing, dynamic load rating and mounting hardware are suitable before installing, or check with a qualified installer if you're not sure.

Why Shop With Us

Why Shop at 4x4 Down Under?

We know that you have a lot of options out there, and we’re incredibly grateful that you’re considering spending your hard earned money with us. We like to think we stand out from the crowd in a few ways.

Excellent & Honest Service

We try and provide the best pre and after sales service possible. If you have a question we’re here to help, and if we don’t know the answer we’ll tell you and then do our absolute best to find the answer for you. We’re also here to guide you to the best possible outcome for you. A lot of stores will simply try to up-sell you on the most expensive option. That’s not how we operate. We want to build a relationship with our customers, and the only way to do that is by being honest and direct.

4x4 Down Under is built on honesty and integrity. For example when you make a purchase with us we only charge your account once we confirm the product is ready for dispatch. Although we like to guarantee everything on our store is available we’re not perfect and mistakes do happen. If something turns out to not be available we’ll let you know immediately and you have the option to cancel your order or wait for more stock to arrive. Should you not want to wait the order is voided, and there’s no waiting a week to get your money back (it’s instant!).

Aussie and Proud!

We're Australians, and we like to support our fellow Australians, which is why all our products are sourced locally from the official Australian distributors. Nothing is imported directly and we don't stock any grey imports. This also means that all manufacturer warranties are fully honored by the brands themselves.

No Sales Gimmicks

When you shop at 4x4 Down Under you don’t have to worry about:
  • Annoying and dishonest ’Sales Timers’ that simply reset every few hours and are there to coerce you into buying.
  • Dishonest “low stock” labels, another coercive sales gimmick.
  • False “John just bought a…” alerts. Our customer alerts (bottom left) are 100% true and we're proud of them.
  • Being bombarded by trust badges and labels everywhere you look that mean nothing.
  • We don't spam! Your information is safe with us. It will never be shared or sold, or used to fill your inbox with garbage.

Fast Shipping with Insurance!

We've partnered with some of Australia's best couriers and freight agents to ensure your purchase reaches you in super-quick time. Once your order has been dispatched you'll receive tracking information which will allow you to track your order online every step of the way. And if something should happen to your order while in transit you can rest assured that it's insured and you won't lose a dime!
