180° Freestanding Awning by San Hima

Set camp fast with the San Hima 180° Freestanding Awning, built around a Pivot Axis Hinge System that lets it stand on its own, no legs to plant, no fumbling around after a long drive. Mount it to the driver or passenger side of your ute, van or wagon and you've got roughly 11 m² of shade over the tailgate for cooking, camp chairs or rolling out a swag.

The canopy is 600D double-ripstop Oxford fabric with a 3,000 mm waterproof rating and UPF 50+ sun protection, so it's built to handle a sudden downpour or a stinking hot day at the range paddock. Powder-coated aluminium alloy arms and stainless steel hardware do the heavy lifting, and amber LED lighting built into the arms means you're not digging around for a head torch once the sun's down.

When it's time to pack up, the awning folds down into a 1,680D Oxford travel cover for the drive home, and San Hima backs it with a 2 year manufacturer warranty.

Features

  • 180° freestanding design: the Pivot Axis Hinge System holds the awning up without support legs.

  • Adjustable mounting brackets: suit a range of rack and crossbar setups, with height adjustment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a 4x4 awning really be freestanding?

Yes. The 180° awning uses a Pivot Axis Hinge System that lets it stand on its own without support legs, so you don't need to peg out poles just to get shade up at camp. It still ships with guy ropes and pegs for extra stability in windy conditions.

Should I get the 180° or the 270° awning?

It comes down to how much wraparound shade you want. This 180° model covers roughly 11 m² on one side of the vehicle and can be mounted on either the driver or passenger side, while San Hima's 270° awning wraps further around the vehicle for around 12 m² of coverage but is sold as a fixed driver-side or passenger-side fitment. If you mainly camp with the tailgate as your living space, the 180° is the simpler option.

How much wind can this awning handle when freestanding?

San Hima rates the 180° awning for freestanding use in winds up to 30 km/h. In stronger or gusty conditions, use the included guy ropes and pegs, or pack the awning away, since a freestanding awning isn't designed to withstand storm-force wind.

What size does the 180° awning pack down to for storage?

Packed in its travel cover, the awning measures 272 x 22 x 16 cm and weighs 30.6 kg, so it's worth planning where it'll live on your roof rack or storage system before you buy.

Does the San Hima 180° awning come with lights built in?

Yes, it has amber LED lighting integrated into the awning arms, with the wiring built into the design, so there's no separate light bar or cabling to rig up at camp.

Will this awning fit my existing roof rack or crossbars?

The awning comes with adjustable mounting brackets designed to suit a range of rack and crossbar setups, with adjustable height. Check your rack's mounting points and load capacity against the bracket kit before ordering, or get in touch to confirm fitment for your specific setup.

Why Shop With Us

Why Shop at 4x4 Down Under?

We know that you have a lot of options out there, and we’re incredibly grateful that you’re considering spending your hard earned money with us. We like to think we stand out from the crowd in a few ways.

Excellent & Honest Service

We try and provide the best pre and after sales service possible. If you have a question we’re here to help, and if we don’t know the answer we’ll tell you and then do our absolute best to find the answer for you. We’re also here to guide you to the best possible outcome for you. A lot of stores will simply try to up-sell you on the most expensive option. That’s not how we operate. We want to build a relationship with our customers, and the only way to do that is by being honest and direct.

4x4 Down Under is built on honesty and integrity. For example when you make a purchase with us we only charge your account once we confirm the product is ready for dispatch. Although we like to guarantee everything on our store is available we’re not perfect and mistakes do happen. If something turns out to not be available we’ll let you know immediately and you have the option to cancel your order or wait for more stock to arrive. Should you not want to wait the order is voided, and there’s no waiting a week to get your money back (it’s instant!).

Aussie and Proud!

We're Australians, and we like to support our fellow Australians, which is why all our products are sourced locally from the official Australian distributors. Nothing is imported directly and we don't stock any grey imports. This also means that all manufacturer warranties are fully honored by the brands themselves.

No Sales Gimmicks

When you shop at 4x4 Down Under you don’t have to worry about:
  • Annoying and dishonest ’Sales Timers’ that simply reset every few hours and are there to coerce you into buying.
  • Dishonest “low stock” labels, another coercive sales gimmick.
  • False “John just bought a…” alerts. Our customer alerts (bottom left) are 100% true and we're proud of them.
  • Being bombarded by trust badges and labels everywhere you look that mean nothing.
  • We don't spam! Your information is safe with us. It will never be shared or sold, or used to fill your inbox with garbage.

Fast Shipping with Insurance!

We've partnered with some of Australia's best couriers and freight agents to ensure your purchase reaches you in super-quick time. Once your order has been dispatched you'll receive tracking information which will allow you to track your order online every step of the way. And if something should happen to your order while in transit you can rest assured that it's insured and you won't lose a dime!

If you still have any doubts feel free to give us a call on 1300 76 86 41, or contact us here. We'd love to hear from you.
