Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the package?

The package includes one 10mm x 30m Dyneema winch rope and one forged steel hook (13mm x 9cm). This means you have the rope and hook ready to install without needing to source a hook separately.

What is the breaking load of this rope?

The breaking load is listed as 10,950kg. This is the rope's rated break point. Your practical working loads during a recovery will be a fraction of that figure, governed by your winch's rated line pull. Always check the rating of your complete setup, including winch, rope, hook, and any recovery hardware you are using.

What does the urethane coating on the rope add?

The urethane coating is designed to increase resistance to UV radiation, chemicals, and moisture. It provides a degree of protection for the fibres, which is intended to extend the life of the rope when used in harsh outdoor conditions. The coating does not affect the rope's core strength rating.

Why does the product highlight that this rope is only 1/8 the weight of steel cable?

A 30m synthetic winch rope of this diameter is dramatically lighter than an equivalent steel cable. This makes the rope easier to pull out and handle manually, reduces weight on the front of your vehicle, and lowers the risk of injury from dropping or working with the rope in awkward positions. The weight difference is noticeable in the field.

Will this rope work on winches fitted with a roller fairlead?

Synthetic rope is designed for use with a hawse (aluminium) fairlead, not a roller fairlead. Roller fairleads have metal contact edges designed for steel cable that can abrade and damage synthetic rope under load. If your winch has a roller fairlead, replace it with a hawse fairlead at the same time as fitting this rope.

What winch sizes is this rope suited to?

The product is listed as suitable for winches on SUVs, Jeeps, trucks, ATVs, utes, and similar vehicles. At 10mm diameter, it is generally appropriate for mid-to-large winches. Check your winch manufacturer's recommended rope diameter and drum capacity before ordering to confirm a good fit.

Does synthetic rope require different handling during a recovery compared to steel cable?

Yes. Use a recovery damper laid over the rope during any winching operation. Avoid running the rope over sharp edges where possible, and keep the rope moving to prevent heat building up at any single contact point with the fairlead. After the recovery, inspect the rope for any cuts or wear, particularly in the sleeved section.

How do I look after this rope to keep it performing well?

Rinse the rope and hook after use in mud, sand, or salt water and allow both to dry before storage. Inspect the rope body, the sleeve, and the hook attachment point before each outing. Replace the rope if you see cuts, fraying, or visible fibre damage. Keep the rope out of direct sunlight for extended periods when it is not in use, as UV exposure can degrade synthetic fibres over time despite the urethane coating.

Why Shop at 4x4 Down Under?

We know that you have a lot of options out there, and we’re incredibly grateful that you’re considering spending your hard earned money with us. We like to think we stand out from the crowd in a few ways.

Excellent & Honest Service

We try and provide the best pre and after sales service possible. If you have a question we’re here to help, and if we don’t know the answer we’ll tell you and then do our absolute best to find the answer for you. We’re also here to guide you to the best possible outcome for you. A lot of stores will simply try to up-sell you on the most expensive option. That’s not how we operate. We want to build a relationship with our customers, and the only way to do that is by being honest and direct.

4x4 Down Under is built on honesty and integrity. For example when you make a purchase with us we only charge your account once we confirm the product is ready for dispatch. Although we like to guarantee everything on our store is available we’re not perfect and mistakes do happen. If something turns out to not be available we’ll let you know immediately and you have the option to cancel your order or wait for more stock to arrive. Should you not want to wait the order is voided, and there’s no waiting a week to get your money back (it’s instant!).

Aussie and Proud!

We're Australians, and we like to support our fellow Australians, which is why all our products are sourced locally from the official Australian distributors. Nothing is imported directly and we don't stock any grey imports. This also means that all manufacturer warranties are fully honored by the brands themselves.

No Sales Gimmicks

When you shop at 4x4 Down Under you don’t have to worry about:
  • Annoying and dishonest ’Sales Timers’ that simply reset every few hours and are there to coerce you into buying.
  • Dishonest “low stock” labels, another coercive sales gimmick.
  • False “John just bought a…” alerts. Our customer alerts (bottom left) are 100% true and we're proud of them.
  • Being bombarded by trust badges and labels everywhere you look that mean nothing.
  • We don't spam! Your information is safe with us. It will never be shared or sold, or used to fill your inbox with garbage.

Fast Shipping with Insurance!

We've partnered with some of Australia's best couriers and freight agents to ensure your purchase reaches you in super-quick time. Once your order has been dispatched you'll receive tracking information which will allow you to track your order online every step of the way.
