Kalbarri Gen 2 Hardshell Roof Top Tent with Ladder and 130W, 200W or 250W Solar Panel by San Hima

This is the Kalbarri Gen 2 with the power problem already solved. You get the full-size hardshell tent and a matched San Hima solar panel with its charge controller, so the setup that keeps your lights and devices running arrives in one box instead of three separate decisions.

The tent side is the same one we sell on its own. A 200 x 133 x 148cm interior that San Hima puts at 30 per cent larger than the previous model, a skyview window overhead, AquaShield coating against UV, water and corrosion, and a 420D Oxford and 280GT polyester-cotton body rated PU 5,000mm with UV 50+. Compare it against the rest of our roof top tents if you are still deciding on size.

The choice you actually have to make is panel size. The 130W is the lightest at 8.2kg and the smallest to stow at 920 x 30 x 670mm. The 250W puts out nearly twice the power at 14.51kg and 1580 x 808 x 35mm. If you run a fridge and charge a couple of devices, the bigger panels earn their space. If you are topping up a battery over a long weekend, the 130W is less to carry.

Features

  • Skyview window. Light through the day, open sky at night.
  • AquaShield coating. Resists UV, water and corrosion.
  • 420D Oxford and 280GT poly-cotton. PU 5,000mm waterproof rating and UV 50+, with an automotive-grade rubber seal against water seepage.

  • Tri-colour LED strip light. Bright white, warm sunlight white, or mosquito-repellent amber.
  • Aluminium honeycomb panel base. Insulation for hot and cool conditions alike.

  • Eight interior pockets and a shoe bag.
  • Telescopic ladder to 2.3m, 150kg capacity. Hooks on three sides.
  • Matched solar panel and charge controller included. 130W, 200W or 250W monocrystalline.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which solar panel size should I choose?

It comes down to what you are running and how much space you want to give up. The 130W is 8.2kg and stows at 920 x 30 x 670mm. The 200W is 10.6kg at 1476 x 35 x 670mm. The 250W is 14.51kg at 1580 x 808 x 35mm. All three are monocrystalline and ship with a charge controller.

Can my vehicle carry the Kalbarri Gen 2 with a solar panel?

The tent is listed at 86kg before roof bars, and the panel adds between 8.2kg and 14.51kg depending on the size you pick. Compare that total against your vehicle's dynamic roof load rating, the figure that applies while driving, rather than the higher static rating that applies when parked. If it is close, confirm with the vehicle manufacturer or a licensed mechanic before fitting.

Does the solar panel mount on the tent or sit separately?

The kit includes the panel, a charge controller and a mounting kit. Refer to the user manual linked on this page for the mounting arrangement and wiring, and have the electrical side done by a qualified auto electrician if you are not confident with 12V work.

What is the maximum system voltage on these panels?

All three panels are rated to 1000 VDC maximum system voltage, with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.

How much weight can the tent hold once it is up?

San Hima lists a maximum tent load rating of 350kg. The integrated crossbars carry up to 30kg, and the telescopic ladder is rated to 150kg. Those are three separate limits.

What warranty comes with the bundle?

The roof top tent carries a two year manufacturer warranty and the solar panel a twelve month manufacturer warranty. Coverage terms are set by the manufacturer.

How big is the sleeping area?

The interior measures 2000 x 1330 x 1480mm, which San Hima describes as 30 per cent larger than the previous Kalbarri and suited to a family of three. A 2000 x 1310 x 65mm high-density foam mattress is included, along with an anti-condensation mat.

What is the folded height for garage clearance?

The tent folds to 2100 x 1430 x 200mm. Add your roof bar height and vehicle roof height, then measure the opening before ordering.

Why Shop With Us

Why Shop at 4x4 Down Under?

We know that you have a lot of options out there, and we’re incredibly grateful that you’re considering spending your hard earned money with us. We like to think we stand out from the crowd in a few ways.

Excellent & Honest Service

We try and provide the best pre and after sales service possible. If you have a question we’re here to help, and if we don’t know the answer we’ll tell you and then do our absolute best to find the answer for you. We’re also here to guide you to the best possible outcome for you. A lot of stores will simply try to up-sell you on the most expensive option. That’s not how we operate. We want to build a relationship with our customers, and the only way to do that is by being honest and direct.

4x4 Down Under is built on honesty and integrity. For example when you make a purchase with us we only charge your account once we confirm the product is ready for dispatch. Although we like to guarantee everything on our store is available we’re not perfect and mistakes do happen. If something turns out to not be available we’ll let you know immediately and you have the option to cancel your order or wait for more stock to arrive. Should you not want to wait the order is voided, and there’s no waiting a week to get your money back (it’s instant!).

Aussie and Proud!

We're Australians, and we like to support our fellow Australians, which is why all our products are sourced locally from the official Australian distributors. Nothing is imported directly and we don't stock any grey imports. This also means that all manufacturer warranties are fully honored by the brands themselves.

No Sales Gimmicks

When you shop at 4x4 Down Under you don’t have to worry about:
  • Annoying and dishonest ’Sales Timers’ that simply reset every few hours and are there to coerce you into buying.
  • Dishonest “low stock” labels, another coercive sales gimmick.
  • False “John just bought a…” alerts. Our customer alerts (bottom left) are 100% true and we're proud of them.
  • Being bombarded by trust badges and labels everywhere you look that mean nothing.
  • We don't spam! Your information is safe with us. It will never be shared or sold, or used to fill your inbox with garbage.

Fast Shipping with Insurance!

We've partnered with some of Australia's best couriers and freight agents to ensure your purchase reaches you in super-quick time. Once your order has been dispatched you'll receive tracking information which will allow you to track your order online every step of the way. And if something should happen to your order while in transit you can rest assured that it's insured and you won't lose a dime!

If you still have any doubts feel free to give us a call on 1300 76 86 41, or contact us here. We'd love to hear from you.
