    Frequently Asked Questions

What hardware is included with this rope?

The package includes the 10mm x 30m Dyneema rope, one hook, and one shackle. Having all three components means you have the essentials for a complete rope installation without sourcing hardware separately.

    What is the breaking strength?

The minimum breaking load is listed as 10,950kg. This is the rated break point of the rope itself. The hook and shackle have their own separate ratings. Your working load limits are governed by the lowest rated component in your full recovery setup, including your winch and any additional hardware.

What is the warranty on this product?

FieryRed provides a two-year warranty on this rope. Refer to the manufacturer's warranty terms for the specific conditions and coverage applicable to your purchase.

What does the 1.5m protective sheath do?

The sheath covers the section of rope that contacts the fairlead and experiences the most heat, friction, and abrasion during winching. It acts as a sacrificial protective layer, taking wear that would otherwise damage the Dyneema core. Inspect the sheath before each use. If it is worn through, the rope beneath should be assessed for damage before the next outing.

When would I use the shackle versus the hook in a recovery setup?

The hook is typically used to connect the rope directly to a recovery point or anchor. The shackle is more versatile for connecting multiple pieces of hardware or where you need a more secure, gate-locked connection. When using a shackle during recovery, ensure the pin is correctly tightened and moused to prevent it from unscrewing under load. Refer to your recovery gear manufacturer's instructions for correct use of each component.

Do I need a hawse fairlead to use this rope?

Yes. Synthetic rope requires a hawse (aluminium) fairlead. If your winch is currently fitted with a roller fairlead for steel cable, you will need to replace it with a hawse fairlead before fitting this rope. Running synthetic rope through a roller fairlead can cause rapid abrasion of the fibres at the contact points.

How does this compare to a steel cable of the same diameter?

At approximately 1/8 the weight of equivalent steel cable, this rope is significantly easier to handle and pull out by hand. Dyneema does not rust or develop wire splinters. In the event of a failure, synthetic rope drops rather than releasing stored energy in a dangerous snapback. Synthetic rope does require more attention to UV exposure and surface damage than steel, so regular inspection is important.

How do I maintain this rope and its included hardware?

After recovery use, rinse the rope, hook, and shackle to remove mud, sand, and salt. Allow everything to dry before storing. Inspect the rope for cuts, fraying, or heat damage, particularly in the sleeved section. Check the hook for cracks or distortion, and ensure the shackle pin is straight and threads cleanly. Replace any component showing damage or wear before going back out.
