Introducing the Carbon Offroad Extreme Duty Scout Pro 20,000lb Truck Winch (12v or 24v)
The Carbon Offroad Scout Pro 20K isn't built for the average 4x4. This is a winch for serious trucks, expedition rigs, and operators who need guaranteed pulling power where a standard-rated winch won't cut it. At 9,072kg (20,000lbs) rated single-line pull, the CW-XD20 suits heavily-modified utes, high-GVM vehicles, loaded trailers, and commercial recovery work.
Powered by a 7HP series-wound motor and a 354:1 three-stage planetary gearbox, it delivers controlled, consistent torque from the first metre of rope to the last. Proportional braking adjusts automatically based on load, reducing heat buildup on the drum during sustained pulls. The IP68-rated electronics and 600A sealed solenoid handle full water crossings, coastal salt air, bulldust, and mud without issue. Both a wired and wireless remote come included, ready to work from the moment it's fitted.
Is the Scout Pro 20,000lb the right spec for your rig?
The 20K is a purpose-built tool for specific setups. Before ordering, it's worth checking a few things:
-
Vehicle GVM: Recommended for vehicles with a GVM above 5,000kg. Think expedition trucks, heavy 4x4 commercials, and agricultural or mining vehicles. This isn't a winch for a standard ute build.
-
Bull bar or winch mount rating: Your mounting point needs to be rated for a winch at this capacity. On commercial truck builds this often means a purpose-built winch bumper or integrated mounting plate. Confirm with your fabricator if you're unsure.
-
Electrical system: A 620 CCA minimum battery is recommended. On larger diesel platforms with upgraded alternators this is usually straightforward, but verify your system can sustain the draw under repeated pulls.
-
Mounting pattern: The Scout Pro uses a standard mounting bolt pattern (i.e. 254mm x 114.3mm). Confirm compatibility with your mount before purchasing.

Why a 20,000lb winch?
Most 4x4 winches are rated between 9,000 and 12,000lbs (which is appropriate for a standard mid-size rig). But the Scout Pro 20K exists for a different class of vehicle altogether. Unimogs, Iveco Daily 4x4s, Fuso Canter 4x4s, MAN light trucks, heavy expedition campers on commercial chassis, and agricultural or mining vehicles operate at a GVM where anything less than 20,000lbs of rated pull simply isn't enough. The general rule is to spec your winch at 1.5 times your vehicle's gross weight. At 9,072kg rated capacity, the Scout Pro is built for vehicles sitting above 5,000kg GVM. If that's your platform, this is your winch.

Frequently Asked Questions
What vehicles is the 20,000lb Scout Pro designed for and is it overkill for a standard dual cab?
The CW-XD20 is built for large, heavy-duty platforms such as Unimogs, Iveco Daily 4x4s, Fuso Canter 4x4s, MAN light trucks, heavy expedition campers on commercial chassis, and agricultural or mining vehicles. These are rigs sitting above 5,000kg GVM where a standard winch rating simply isn't enough. For a standard dual cab 4WD, a 9,000–12,000lb winch is typically the right fit. The 20K is the step up for seriously heavy applications.
What's the gear ratio and motor horsepower, and what does that mean for real-world performance?
The CW-XD20 runs a 7HP series wound motor through a 345:1 three-stage planetary gearbox. That gear ratio is significantly higher than smaller winches, which is how it generates 9,072kg of line pull. At no load it pulls at 8.0m per minute, slowing to 1.0m per minute at full rated load. The 7HP motor delivers the sustained power needed for heavy, repeated recovery work without thermal overload.
What synthetic rope comes with the 20K Scout Pro?
The CW-XD20 ships with 25m of 13mm diameter synthetic rope. At this pulling capacity, 13mm rope is the right diameter, strong enough to handle the loads this winch generates while remaining manageable to handle and store. The 25m length is longer than most winch ropes in this class, giving you good reach to anchor points in most recovery situations.
What mounting bolt pattern does the CW-XD20 use and will it fit my bullbar?
The CW-XD20 uses a 254mm x 114.3mm mounting bolt pattern, the standard for large 4x4 winch mounts. At 579 x 192 x 224mm and 37kg complete, this is a large winch, so confirm your winch mount can handle the weight and that the winch box dimensions match your bar. Most quality steel bars and dedicated winch mounts designed for 20K+ winches will accommodate this unit, but check with your bar manufacturer before ordering.
What's included in the box with the 20K Scout Pro?
The full kit includes: the Carbon Offroad 20,000lb Scout Pro winch (12V or 24V), heavy-duty control box with wiring loom, Carbon MEGAPRO winch hook, 25m x 13mm synthetic rope, wired hand controller with integrated plug, wireless remote control, main power cables, protective split conduit, CNC billet aluminium fairlead, battery isolator switch, isolator wiring cable, mounting hardware, terminal boots and covers, and a winch strap.
What warranty does the Carbon 20K Scout Pro come with?
The CW-XD20 is backed by a lifetime mechanical warranty, a 5 year electrical warranty, and a 5 year water ingress protection warranty. That's a strong warranty package for a winch at this capacity level and reflects Carbon Offroad's confidence in the product. We're here to support any warranty claims that come up after purchase.
How heavy is the 20K Scout Pro and what does that mean for my vehicle's front end?
The winch installed weight is 31.7kg, with the full kit including control box, cables, mounting hardware, fairlead and rope, it comes in at 37.2kg total. On the commercial and heavy-duty platforms this winch is designed for, front axle ratings are typically well above what a 37kg addition would concern, but it's still worth factoring into your front axle load and GVM calculations alongside your bull bar or winch bumper weight. If your rig is already running close to its front axle rating with existing accessories, confirm the headroom with your vehicle's payload documentation before fitting.
